About Haneda Shrine Festival
On the last Saturday and Sunday of July, Haneda Shrine holds its summer grand festival, which has 800 year-history where numerous portable Shinto shrines(mikoshi) are paraded through the streets .The summer festival tuned down after Word WarⅡ;only three mikoshi were on parade in 1975,The colorful festival now is back to its traditional size and fourteen mikoshi will be parading through the streets.
The way to carry a mikoshi is unique to Haneda . it is called “Yokotakatsugi” which represents the fishing industry expressing a small boats floating on rough sea waves. Decorations in the town imitating the flag and lanterns that decorated the fishing boats are also impressive.
This year, the festival will be held on 26th(Saturday)and 27th(Sunday) in july.
